The Wines

Single vineyard. Single varietal. Never a blend.

Every wine comes from one vineyard and one grape, 100% — nothing blended, fermented on native wild yeast, and bottled unfined and unfiltered, with only a trace of added sulfur. 212 gold & silver medals.

Sonoma County Harvest Fair Double Gold Medal ribbon
Award-winning

Triple Gold. Best of Class. 212 medals and counting.

Cazadero’s Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Chardonnay have taken Triple Gold, Best of Class, Double Gold, Gold, and Silver at the competitions that set the bar: the San Francisco Chronicle, Sunset International, Monterey International, the International Women’s, New York’s Finger Lakes International, the Sonoma County Harvest Fair, the Press Democrat North Coast Wine Challenge, Dan Berger’s International, the Harvest Challenge, and the Fifty Best California Chardonnays.

For a winery of barely a thousand cases, that isn’t luck — it’s the same two people, Frank and Ronita Egger, on every vintage.

2022 Hummingbird Hill Pinot Noir bottle
Sonoma Coast AVA

2022 Hummingbird Hill Pinot Noir

Hummingbird Hill Vineyard · Winemaker, Ashley Herzberg

A cool-climate Pinot off a steep volcanic hillside, born of a tiny, frost-thinned 2022 crop that poured all of its concentration into the glass.

The vintageA dry winter, then frost and hail at bloom thinned an already small crop. The tiny yields concentrated everything — real depth and intensity in the wine.

In the glassA beautiful light-cranberry color, with aromas of fresh-picked raspberry and brambly blackberry, a hint of alpine strawberry, cassis and orange zest, and a touch of clove and white pepper. Juicy red fruit up front, layered with spice over subtle tannin, the acidity keeping it bright and vibrant. Built to age five to seven years.

2021 Hummingbird Hill Pinot Noir bottle
Sonoma Coast AVA

2021 Hummingbird Hill Pinot Noir

Hummingbird Hill Vineyard · Winemaker, Ashley Herzberg

The most decorated wine in the cellar — a Triple Gold, Best of Class, and Best of Sonoma Coast AVA — grown high on a wind-scoured hillside and bottled untouched.

The vintageA low-yielding, drought-year vintage on the coast: small berries, deep color, and the kind of concentration that rewards a patient hillside.

In the glassFresh and vibrant — blueberry and wild strawberry over a classic Pinot nose, earthy and intense beneath. Balanced and silky, with the structure to reward a few years in the cellar.

2018 Bei Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon bottle
Sonoma Coast AVA

2018 Bei Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon

Bei Ranch · Cazadero · Winemaker, Ashley Herzberg

100% Cabernet from a redwood-ringed ridge at 1,600 feet, foot-stomped on native yeast — deep, plush, and built to keep for years.

The vintageA beautiful, even year in Sonoma County — ideal weather all season and into harvest, warm without heat spikes, remarkably consistent.

In the glassSuch a gem. Deep red-purple and rich from the first sip — dried black plum, blackberry fruit leather, a hint of raspberry coulis, tanned leather, black tea and baking spice. The palate layers tobacco leaf, menthol and roasted black cherry over lush but present tannins. Drinking beautifully eight years on, with five more in front of it.

2017 Bei Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon bottle
Sonoma Coast AVA

2017 Bei Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon

Bei Ranch · Cazadero · Winemaker, Randall Watkins

The first Cabernet off the Bei Ranch ridge, and still winning gold years on — leather, cherry and walnut from one of the coast’s wildest vineyards.

The vintageA warm, generous season on the high coast, the mountain fruit picked ahead of the autumn rains — classic conditions for a structured, age-worthy Cabernet.

In the glassLeather, cherry and herbs, roasted walnut and dried red currants — spicy and balanced, with a fine mouthfeel and a long, lingering finish.

2024 Starscape Vineyard Chardonnay bottle
Russian River Valley AVA

2024 Starscape Vineyard Chardonnay

Middle Reach · Forestville · Winemaker, Ashley Herzberg

From the Middle Reach of the Russian River — neighbor to legendary vineyards like Ritchie and Kistler — barrel-fermented for the richness of its famous address, without ever tipping into heavy oak.

The vintageA cool spring and slightly late budbreak, a hot stretch in June, then an even finish through harvest — warm days, cool nights, and beautifully even ripening.

In the glassLightly roasted hazelnut, almond and peach blossom on the nose, with white-peach nectar and a hint of vanilla bean. The palate is juicy and lush — white peach and creamy lemon-chiffon cake — finishing on soft citrus and delicate yellow florals. Lovely now, and good for five years or more.

Vineyards & growers

Three small coast-country sites — each farmed by hand, each named on the label.

Hummingbird Hill

Grower · Derek Marshall

Perched on a steep, west-facing volcanic slope on the eastern edge of the Sonoma Coast, this is the kind of cool, fog-washed ground that has people reaching for the word Burgundy, reminiscent of Northern France. Twelve hard-won acres, farmed with barn owls and kestrels on patrol instead of poison.

Bei Ranch

Grower · John Bei

Planted by John Bei in 1990, below the Pole Mountain fire lookout, this rocky ridge-top at 1,600 feet is where the redwoods give way to vines and a coastal rainforest feeds the rows pure spring water. Hot days, fog-cooled nights — true Sonoma Coast, half-wild.

Starscape

Russian River Valley · Forestville

One of the Russian River’s storied addresses — the Middle Reach, next door to legends like Ritchie and Kistler, and farmed for a short list of sought-after producers. Named Starscape for how the rows look under the stars.

2019

Parmeter King Ridge Vineyard Pinot Noir

Fort Ross-Seaview

From the very crown of King Ridge at 1,800 feet, in the rugged Fort Ross-Seaview AVA where only a handful of growers farm the ridgetops above the fog — close enough to the ocean to watch the lights of the fishing boats from the rows at night. Family-farmed and sheep-grazed for decades, 100% Pommard Clone 4, made just like the Bei Ranch wines.

2011

Mountain Terraces Cabernet Sauvignon

Sonoma Coast, Moon Mountain District

An older mountain Cabernet, cellared and poured in very small quantity.
