100% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes hand picked from Bei Ranch, an exquisite, rocky soiled, ridge-top vineyard (1,600 ft. elevation) on the Cazadero side of the North West Sonoma Coast mountain range. The Bei Ranch single vineyard is located half-way between Cazadero and Russian Gulch, right below Pole Mountain Fire Lookout, where the Redwoods meet the vines and the Sonoma Coast Rainforest supplies pure spring water for irrigation. Hot summer days, fog cooled nights.

“Nose of black cherry, blackberry, cola and vanilla. On the palate there is ample pomegranate and dried red cherry crab apple. The palate finishes with hints of pencil shavings and hibiscus. Pair with tomato based pastas with spicy pork, mushrooms, or a huntsman’s stew.  No decanting necessary. Cellar now through 2026.”

The beautiful, distinctly varietal aroma starts with traces of dried herbs mingled with black cherry and graphite. In the mid-palate it’s supple with sufficient tannins to improve for a few years. Because it’s already 8 years old, it tastes superb today, which is counterintuitive because it’s from such a cool region and thus has great acidity.

The 30-year-old vineyard is at 1,600 feet altitude in an area probably suited more to Pinot Noir. Foot-stomped fruit yielded 13.9% alcohol and 28 months in new French oak was so careful the wine doesn’t show smoke/bacon. Just pure depth. A bargain!
